About the Artist - Steve Rubinkam
Chicago-born Steve Rubinkam's
passion for painting began on a
bright sunny morning in
New Orleans. Struck by the variety
of texture in Jackson Square he
purchased a sketchpad and pen at
a local art shop and began to
record the sights.
The rich tones and color expressions
we see in his paintings today are a
direct result of a childhood spent
among brightly colored boats,
the ever changing hues of
Lake Michigan and his innate love
of city architecture.
Lautrec, Matisse, Dufy and Sargent
are strong influences as well.
A particular debt of gratitude for
his burgeoning international career
is owed to Chicago painter
William Carr Olendorf.
