Chicago-born
Steve Rubinkam’s passion for
painting began on a bright sunny morning in
New
Orleans. Struck by the variety of texture in
Jackson Square he purchased a sketchpad
and pen at a local art shop and began to record
the sights.
The
rich tones and color expressions we see
in his paintings today are a direct result of a
childhood spent among brightly colored boats,
the ever changing hues of lake Michigan and
his innate love of city architecture. Lautrec,
Matisse, Dufy and Sargent are strong influences
as well. A particular debt of gratitude for his
burgeoning international career is owed to
Chicago painter William Carr Olendorf. (1924 to
1996)
Collections
of Rubinkam’s impressionistic
acrylic paintings on canvas, paper or masonite
are found through out the US, Canada, and Japan.
